I just got a li'l bitty tractor, a Kubota BX2230.  Gonna buy some stuff for it, the next thing being a boom pole, which is like a miniature crane to put on the 3-point hitch.  W00t!

DD,  I'm sorry to hear that.  So back to driving?

Pretty much.  At least it looks like I'll be able to avoid having to train my replacement and can exit without burning bridges.  Wierd, eh?  A position that was eliminated is going to have people applying to fill it.

Oh, I'm #3 in seniority.  I've chosen some easy driving.   =D

Not now, but I could see doing it in the future.  It has its advantages.  I used to drive it back when it was difficult.  The overhead pedestrian walkways have made it considerably easier.

Good news Scout!

Well, I'm about 4 classes away from having my Firefighter I certification and that's about it for me as far as new news.

Why is it that folks that exclusively like dogs seem to find entertainment in killing cats, but folks that exclusively like cats don't tend to find entertainment in killing dogs?

Dog people talk & bark a lot. Cat people quietly plot & get revenge.  =D

A couple of weeks ago we lost our 10 year old Yellow Lab unexpectedly.
Mama decided she didn't like being home alone all night while I'm at work.
SO, last weekend she told me she was going to go visit her sister for the day.
She came home with this.

6 gallons of apple wine went bad immediately after bottling it.

"Cork Taint" appears to be the culprit, and the wine industry loses a good amount of their yearly production in similar fashion.

Luckily, my college chemistry classes saved the day, but 190 proof is a tad stout to drink straight up.

Cut to 100 proof with apple juice makes for a wonderful evening.

Last night, I helped friends welcome the spring equinox with a bonfire centered in their own miniature version of Stonehenge.

As the Wiccan/Celtic prayers to North, East, South, West, Ground, Sky, and Self commenced, the mason jar made its rounds in the circle.

It went kinda fuzzy after that.   =D

Cool spring weather has returned to Wisconsin.  Time to cast boolits now.  You still have any heavy metal anchoring part of the garage in Illinois?

Yeah, I said it got fuzzy, and I wasn't kidding.

I meant spring equinox.  The pending summer solstice will be another excuse to burn stuff and stay hydrated.   ;)

Still looking for work, decided to get my butt back into school.
Thankfully we took a contract on our house in KC that *knock on wood* will close the middle of April. Huge relief there. That will add about $1100 back into our monthly budget. Which means SWMBO can slack off a bit at work.  Except now she's fired up about getting the pool project moving forward.  I expect that to be completed by next summer.

Took in more strays than I care to mention.  I was raised in a multi-species home. But I've just never felt the same love for dogs, the way I love the felines.  I can't stand tiny yipper dogs. (but wish them no harm) And love the big fellas enough to know I'll never own one unless I had a few acres for him to roam and herd whatever on.

Setting up my ham station again.  Just set up a random dipole with a tuner at the center on the back of the house.  Getting the power routed on the radio bench, installing the new deep cycle gel cell battery and charger.  Mounting speakers, soldering connectors on coax, making a power cable for the tuner.  I've got to come up with antenna solutions for 2m and 440 that don't tweak SWMBO's esthetic sensibilities.
Exciting stuff since I haven't been real active on the bands for fifteen years or so.

I love this thread! Haven't been on here in the past week while driving, though I thought about y'all frequently, and it's good to see what everyone's up too!

Scout, sorry to hear you survived Vegas. Loved the pic of you and DD though!
LS, I'm sorry for the loss of your pet but congrats on the raise!
Hutch, Ben's very very jealous of your tractor and agrees that you need to get a FEL. Soon.
Raspberry, congrats on the house! That's great!
DD, maybe that's a hint that you need to retire and just enjoy life for a while!
Avenger, proud of you!
Larry, that's the cutest puppy ever! Well, after mine of course. :) Post more, we love looking at puppy pictures!

Ben and I drove cross-country this week and are now plotting to take over communifornia. And we're looking at land in the US in case our plot fails.

That Lab looks good.  Might have nice confirmation, got any side-on pix yet?

New?  Here?  Sixteen months retired, well-setled into a nice, boring routine.  Frankly tired of "adventures."

Funny thing is when I retired, I thunk unto myself, "Oh, boy, I can go to the range on weekdays now!  Woo-hoo!"  But last week was the first time I've actually gone.  Tested out an M1 carbine with a scope mounted on it, shot pretty good, no malfs, dialed the scope right in at 25 yards.

Subaru might have blown a head gasket, overheating when exerting a little effort, OK on level city driving.  They can't find any exhaust residue in the coolant though.  I think it's some kind of restriction in the flow.  Theu say the water pump rarely goes on those things, but I'm suspicioning the water pump shaft is slipping at high water demands.  Replaced radiator cap, so it's not that.  Going to make sure the coolant reservoir isn't blocked from the engine block today --when it cools down, it should be "emptier," right? But it stays at the same level after cooldown.

Biding time to see if these "minor fixes" help or a minor miracle occurs.

Odd, though.  I've had a bunch of minor mechanical things go wrong in the last couple of weeks... printer died, dropped cannon on camera, dented the view screen slightly... hmmmm....

Got only one good pic from an experimental session in too-bright sunlight. I call it

"Repelling The Evil Pirates From the Subaru Islands."

Didn't realize the cannon was pointing right at the car in the shade with the bright sunlight kind of washing out the viewfinder a little.

The weather in the Keys has been absolutely marvelous since we got here Dec. 29th.  Tshirt and shorts weather every night.  Gained ten pounds minimum eating great food and drinking everything alcoholic.

We leave for Michigan a week from tomorrow, 1683 miles.  Hoping for non tornadic weather enroute.

Several projects looming at the new house, grampster's ridge, when we get home.

I don't know if I mentioned our grandson will be a daddy in August.  Great grandparents,us.  The child will be the first female in our family since my dad's sister.  Her name is Ava.

I was going to be out and about in shorts and t-shirt myself, but it got a bit windy in the afternoon.
