Speaking of Argentina...
« on: May 07, 2012, 04:37:29 PM »
I seem to recall Argentina being brought up as a wonderful example of how awesome socialism is (cause those damn rich folks don't deserve property rights, doncha know) during a thread a while back. Here's a good answer to that. http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/krugmans-love-affair-with-the-kirchner-model-in-argentina/

Not having ever read any of that stuff, why would anyone put Argentina up as anything other than a bad example when it comes to economic topics?  Did I miss some rise to economic power?

They've done pretty well post collapse, largely due to high soybean prices. Since that growth coincides with vast socialist expansion it gets touted as proof of how much better off the people are under socialism.

Gotta love Krugman. ;/
If you read his works and do the exact opposite of what he suggests, you'll be right every time.

In Krugman's defense, he is not a complete idiot.

He's at least a partial sellout.

A quick view of Argentina's history over the last century should give anyone pause.  There's a lesson and a warning there.
