Re-shaping a straw hat.

(1/5) > >>

Perd Hapley:
I have just acquired an old straw hat with a crooked brim.  Can anyone tell me how to re-shape it?

Leatherneck:
I'd guess that you should wet it and force it to conform to the shape you like. Use whatever is needed to form the shape. Heating the wet straw should set it.

TMM:
that's what i'd do too.

charby:
why reshape it? bends and crooks give it character.

Back when I used to play with horses...

One of my old favorite straw hats before it self distructed has a white Resistol that had the crown crushed when I wore it though a low barn door and then was stomped on by a quarter horse after it blew off my head racing a friend across a pasture. Two years later I went to put it on and the crown popper off, tried to duct tape it but it didn't work. Had to go out and spend another $20 off the reject rack at the tack store, just didn't wear the same as the beat up hat.
