USMC Orders a Bunch of 1911s

I'd not heard of this Colt model. Looks sweet. Similar in appearance to the Sig Scorpion.

May the divine light of John Moses Browning forever shine.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Dual-spring recoil system. Interested to see how that works, and how it holds up.

It sounds like they just duplicated the Delta Elite system. It's basically a smaller diameter spring inside a larger diameter spring. I've had no problems with it in either of my DEs, though I'm not sure why they put it in these. My understanding is that it was put in the DEs to help prevent frame stress from the standard 10mm load (before the FBI mucked up "standard").

Loose springs on a full length guide rod, or a captured dual spring assembly?  (I suppose I'll get around to reading the article sometime.)

Needs an arched main spring housing. I'll take a 10-8 rear sight also.

On the DEs it's loose springs on a standard guide rod and bushing. When I get home from work I can take a pic and post.

USMC Force Recon have been using 1911's for years.  It's a favorite for MEUSOC ship boarding teams for its short range power and accuracy.

The cool thing about the MEUSOC guns was/is that the Marines build them all off of old stock 1911s. They take armorers from the fleet, run them on a3 year tour at Precision Weapons Section, Quantico and pretty much turn them into top level gunsmiths.

I only have two questions.

Where can I get mine, and how much?  (Short of joining the USMC, that is - they wouldn't take me)

Colt Defense LLC, West Hartford, Conn., was awarded a $22,500,000 indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract...

Does that mean we don't know how many pistols we are actually buying, or when they will be delivered?

Quote
That means the price per pistol is $1,875.

This honestly surprises me. Any of the Glock/XD type .45s would have been a much better choice. Why would you turn down 13 rounds of 45 in favor of 8?

True...what makes the 1911 superior to the Glock/XD/M&P design for this specific task?

As much as I like love 1911s, dear Lord just buy some Glocks!

That was my thought, given the requirements.

Quote
The original solicitation outlines some of the features the Corps stipulated, such as a single-stack, 7+ round magazine, drop in parts replacement and accuracy guidelines. It remains to be seen how many of these points made it into the requirements document and the actual pistol, however. For example, drop-in parts on a 1911 pattern pistol is widely regarded as an unrealistic requirement.

Drop in parts?  That just screams "get a Glock".

Glock 21's are too wide for many folks to manipulate comfortably.

So Glock makes a single stack model to meet the Marine Corps' requirements.

Glock already has a single stack, subcompact 6rnd .45, which could be easily enlarged/elongated to meet the specifications.

Why 1911?

Most people shoot the 1911 better than other pistols, accuracy & time-wise.

1911 fits more folks' hands.

Just as reliable as a Glock, when manufactured to modern standards.

Installed knowledge base of armorers.

Now, I have nothing against Glocks, they just don't fit me as well as 1911s.  I think they are a quality weapon.

Or split the difference and do a "stack and a half" like the M&P 45 does (or use an M&P 45).
