I was one of the last citizens of Wisconsin to be issued a drivers license by the city police. 3 weeks after I turned 16, kids had to wait for a state trooper to come by to do tests.
But on my 16th B'day, I dragged my dad down to our local police office.
Cop on duty looks up and says, "Hi, Mike. What can I do for you today?"
Dad says, "Kid's 16. Wants a driver's license."
Cop says, "Gee, Mike. I got to ride herd on the radio and can't leave to give tests. Uhhhh. Can he drive?"
Dad says, "yup."
8 minutes later, the paperwork was done.
