Leather, IWB holsters - where to find?
« on: September 11, 2012, 11:13:26 PM »
I am looking for a leather, IWB holster for a Govt.-sized 1911. Price range is (hopefully) not too far north of $50. I really want to stay under $100.

Features:
  • All leather (Well, obviously there will be metal somewhere. But I'm not looking for a Crossbreed-style holster.)
  • IWB
  • Leather belt loops, on either side of the gun, not on top of it. Like this:

  • Some leather between me and the top of the slide, as on the above.
  • I don't have a holster right now, so no long turn-around times (nothing over a month, say).

I may just get the HEB model in the picture; the prices look good. Not sure what his current turn-around is.

Are you left handed or right handed? If left, I can loan you a Milt Sparks VM2 until you decide on what you want to purchase. Since 99% of my carry is open carry, I don't use it much.

Keep looking, sometimes it takes a while to find what you want. DeSantis makes a similar holster of what you have posted.

I use a Bianchi model I got from Midway for my 1911s.
Not quite what you have pictured but it works for me. I've the same model for my J frames.

HBE proprietor has flaked in the past and I no longer trust him to deliver. (Writes the owner of a well-worn COM holster).

The VM2 design/clone is likely the absolute best for packing a GM sized 1911 IWB.

Put a little lock-tite on the screws that hold the belt loops on, though.

I don't own one, but I've read positive reviews of AKJ Concealco, and the prices seem reasonable.

The one I got Dad for christmas was a Blackhawk. It was in your price range and he's pretty happy with it.

Well, shucks. Looks like he's got months-long turn-around time, due to health issues.  =(

I have had an HBE holster (IWB) for my Sig P245 for something like 5 or 6 years now.  I really like it, and so far it's holding up very well.  Before I sold it to fund my 9.3x62mm hunting rifle I had a .44mag Redhawk that I got a pancake (OWB) holster from HBE for.  That holster was so comfy I barely knew I even had that heavy gun on my hip.  Got both of those before Eric had his "issues".

HBE makes good stuff. When I had my CZ P-01, it happily resided in a HBE holster. He makes good stuff at a good price but, as sumpnz alluded to, I'd inquire on more trafficked forums how happy people are currently with turnaround time, responsiveness, etc. before placing an order.

Go with C5 Leather. http://www.c5leather.com/

I have a Montana XLT holster for my M&P from him and it's very good work...plus I have a mag holder from him that's also good.

I, too, have an HBE COM (for a Glock 23) that I got before the issues started.

So comfortable I've slept on it.  Seriously.  At a rest stop going from MI to FL -- I slept in Georgia on the darned thing with the gun in it.

I've read some good reviews for Lobo gun leather in the past, may give them a call when I have some extra money.  http://lobogunleather.com/5_iwb_belt_loop_style

Thanks. I had seen that Lobo holster a few days ago. Between that one and the C5, I'm leaning toward the C5, along with this belt from Zlogonje Gunleathers.
