Do those petitions hold any water whatsoever?

I don't get it. Can't anyone create a petition for pretty much anything there?
What's the significance of this?

The first stirrings.  Dismiss them if you like but they reflect some deep passions.

There are certainly some deep passions, I don't think anyone is disputing that. The questions is whether anything will come of it. If anything does come of it, I doubt these petitions will be an important component of it.

It has to start somewhere.  First the idea must enter the national conversation.  And it is.  The more unthinkable thoughts people think the sooner we will approach realism.

We don't know what will "come of it."  But all progress begins with that sense of "WTF?"

BTW, Andrew Wilkow interviewed a liberal writer not too long ago who wrote "Better off without them".  His hypothesis is the north would do well to have the union break up, but that it would only be peaceful if they retained Texas, due to Texas' access to oil, refining capability, and deepwater protected gulf ports.

Yep, any fool with a computer can start a petition.  There another sight called "Causes"  same thing.  Create a petition try to effect "Change".

How convenient. And how unlikely it is that Texas would join the liberal country.

Is New Jersey wanting to secede, or are other states wanting New Jersey to leave?

You must have missed the other thread, you guys are going to be absorbed by Russia. Hope you like vodka.
For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

The petition from Texas has now gained national media attention. It went from ~16K when I looked at it this morning to 25K+ in 7 hours.

Petition to give Chicago to Canadia.

Add Detroit and I would back that also.

Yep some of the main stream media have picked up on it, probably because President Obama said he would address any petition with at least 25k signatures on it.
