The "rule of law" way to go is, as others noted, for the legislature to act and make the repeal retroactive or the Governor to commute the sentences.

Not sure why we keep letting our elected agents off the hook by devising workarounds so they can avoid putting on their big girl pants and making the hard decisions we hired them for and bearing the consequences either way.
