I think we need to look at America with a very cold eye right now.

I think we have had to do this for a long time.  People seem to have short memories once their party is in power.

I saw a few pieces on her over the weekend and her resume doesn't seem all that bad.  She also looks pretty black to me.

While working for the Clinton administration in '96 she was a leading voice in refusing to take Bin Laden when offered by Sudan.
While in the state dept. in '98 her voice was deciding factor in refusing requests from US embassies in africa additional security against car bombs.

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Indeed, but Americans are, we are told, an open-minded and optimistic people.  They are.  Perhaps way too much so.  We are too much in love with our myths about our inevitability.  This is just escapism.

Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

I never suggested that she was any good at her job, but just that she didn't go straight from college into her current job.
