Chin Up!
« on: January 11, 2013, 10:55:59 PM »
I'd like this to be a thread we can go to when we need to read about the things that are going our way.  To that end, I hope that whenever you run across a positive link, you share it here.  I'm okay with there also being a thread dedicated to whatever the link is, but I'd still like to see it copied here for a convenient place to go for good news.

I'm putting it in Politics because I'm hopeful that some of the good news will be political in nature.  And in keeping with the desire to make this a morale-lifting thread, I'd humbly request that in here if you don't have something good to say, you don't say anything.

I'll start with a couple I like:

Lewis County Sheriff’s Office overwhelmed with concealed pistol license seekers
http://www.lewiscountysirens.com/?p=16533
"Sheriff Steve Mansfield said he sees the increase in requests as a reaction where more people just want to be more in control of their own security and safety."

The Southern States PBA official stand on gun control in America
http://www.sspba.org/gen/articles/The_Southern_States_PBA_official_stand_on_gun_control_in_America_323.jsp
"As president of Southern States PBA, a professional law enforcement association with over 30,000 members from federal, state, county and municipal agencies, I would like to  express our support for the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution and for law abiding citizens to purchase and own firearms."

Kentucky Sheriff to Obama: No Gun Disarmament in My County
http://www.ammoland.com/2013/01/kentucky-sheriff-to-obama-no-gun-disarmament-in-my-county/#ixzz2HhI0jp00
"And far from worrying about repercussions for doing this, Peyman sees the gun control push as a sign of weakness that will crumble in the face of real opposition: 'Just a few of us have to be willing to stand up to political opposition putting our people at risk. The other side will back down.'”

Missteps and setbacks impacting gun ban momentum as gun owners start to advance
http://www.examiner.com/article/missteps-and-setbacks-impacting-gun-ban-momentum-as-gun-owners-start-to-advance
"Gun owners, horrified and then outraged by a full court press from the government, the “Authorized Journalist” media and citizen disarmament advocacy groups, are beginning to push back in a coordinated effort, and are sensing that their enemies, over-confident and unrestrained, have let their reach exceed reality, and revealed an end game that’s beyond their grasp."

The psychological and public health benefits of gun ownership
By Dr. Keith Ablow

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2013/01/12/psychological-and-public-health-benefits-gun-ownership/?intcmp=HPBucket
"As Thomas Jefferson wrote to his nephew Peter Carr in 1785, 'A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the Body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind . . . '"

Montana Shooting Sports Association: Open Letter: No New Gun Laws
http://oathkeepers.org/oath/2013/01/05/montana-shooting-sports-association-open-letter-no-new-gun-laws/
"Conclusion. Since Montana law enforcement personnel are unlikely to enforce any such restrictions, the effect of passage of such restrictions would ultimately be for federal officers to come to Montana to enforce them.  Because most Montanans will simply not comply with any new federal restraints on a right they have reserved specifically from government interference, the obvious result would be armed conflict between Montanans and federal enforcers.  (I offer this not as a threat or a challenge, but simply as an observation.)
I certainly hope you would not set Montana on the path to an armed conflict with federal enforcers by aiding or supporting passage of any new federal restrictions.  That would not be in the best interest of your constituents.
Instead, if you feel compelled to pass some actually corrective legislation in response to the media hysteria over the Connecticut shooting, I highly recommend that you get rid of those dangerous and illusory “gun free zones.”
Very sincerely,
/s/
Gary Marbut, President
Montana Shooting Sports Association"

The upside is, if they have to deal with a bad guy, they have the skills and equipment to clean up the mess afterwards.

Reminds me of the high school I went to in Ohio.  Rural, about the same size even.  The point about the custodians having the best knowledge of the school is right on.  I knew ways into and passageways through my school that very few other students knew and probably next to no outsiders knew about.

Study finds 40% of high school and college students "definitely plan" on owning firearms. Another 20% on top of that are "contemplating" it. The percentages don't really change from HS to college.
