source of low voltage components
« on: March 12, 2007, 10:54:16 AM »
I need to items for something solar/battery powered I am building I can find what I need.

I need a voltage cutoff that will cut off between 6-7 volts. I need to kill the circuit between a solar panel and battery pack when batteries are charged then close the circuit when the batteries drop below a certain voltage.

I need a 6 volt motion switch.

All need to be small, I need everything it fit inside a 6x4x2 box (including batteries).

Anyone got a place that might have these online?

If you're doing what I think you're doing, you may want to try a solar charge controller.

I have a bank of solar panels charging a rack of 12 AGM wheelchair batteries, and don't want the batteries to discharge through the solar panels at night when the panels are providing less than charging voltage.  Plus, on cloudy days or when I want to trickle charge the battery bank, my solar charge controller allows additional charging current besides the solar panels.

Mine's a Morningstar Sunsaver:

Radio Shack still carries electronic parts, but you have to order them via their catalog or from their site. I think it falls under the commercial section. (at least they did about four years ago). I find it dismaying that there are few real electronic parts stores any more.

While we are on this subject, anybody know the company that used to rebuild various circuit boards (like for TVs) and would remarket them?? Also, if they are still around?? (They required a trade-in) I got a couple for some TV repairs back in the late 70s and I've forgotten their name.
