Can anyone make some recommendations? I know two things about both fields - diddly and squat. It's for a friend.

My sister-in-law and her husband own a plumbing/heating/AC company. They use QuickBooks. She says that it's very easy to learn and use.
I took a brief look at it, and it doesn't seem any more complicated that Microsoft Excel.

I can tell you I'm NOT impressed by Peachtree. Try Quickbooks I'd say.

+1 for Quickbooks, go with the Pro version. Allows for expansion and higher complexity later on as they grow, but starts with very simple processes for NON-accounting types.
