That's not like the United Way campaign at all!   ;/

Tell me about it.  SWMBO works for a non-profit that gets part of its money from the United Way and it was highly suggested that she give to the United Way campaign on her first day of work.

I always thought it was disgusting to hit up enlisted military making barely minimum wage themselves for such charities.

Glad I am not the only one.

I am proud to say that I worked under an XO who would counsel enlisted men who were taken in for serious $$$ by CFC.  Like the E-2 (or was it E-3?) who signed up to give something like $500/mo to some cancer charity.  The XO wasn't "anti-charity," but he was dead set against seeing his men humped over at noon on Main Street.

Getting 100% participation was one of the holy grails upper management went on crusdade to achieve.

stay safe.

When I was active duty they did the same *expletive deleted*it.  It was all about who could have 100% participation.  Because every Lcpl making $16,000 annually should contribute to charity!  Oorah!

I always "encouraged" my guys to donated something like $.50-$1 a month to some BS CFC charity, just so the CDR and 1SG would get off everyone's ass.

"There sir, 100%.  Now can we move on to more important things like training?"
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

Yeah I think I signed up at like $5 a month.  You should have seen the admin NCO's face when I shut down my SGLI in favor of cheaper civilian coverage, too.

In my unit we had an absolute embarrassment of a 1st Sgt that guilted/intimidated people into donations for CFC. I overheard him once, trying to shame a private who wouldn't give to "help black kids." ( They were both black.)

I have told bosses before that I'll donate to their United Way campaign when the company starts matching our donations.
"It's good, though..."
