Ok..I have a little time, so if anyone new wants me to do a quick family thing for them, let me know. No charge..just get me back to 1930 or so and I can usually come up with something. If I do a really good job and you feel very appreciative, donate some money to the NRA for it. If not, well, you get waht you pay for. Smiley

How about family history in other countries, Barbara?  I'd like to find out a bit more about my lot, but they're all in England.
Let's put the fun back in dysfunctional!

England is pretty easy. They kept good records. They have census records back to 1840 anyway, and parish records before that. And there's the advantage of it all being in English which makes it easier.

Send me stuff..I'll come up with something. Usually anyway.

Unless your grandparents were John and Mary Smith, in which case, I'm not going to have much luck.

Mine came from Albania, spent a few in Sicily, and then came into Jersey

I'm not sure how well Albania kept records but I am willing to assume that the answer would be not very well lol.
That is all. *expletive deleted*ck you all, eat *expletive deleted*it, and die in a fire. I have considered writing here a long parting section dedicated to each poster, but I have decided, at length, against it. *expletive deleted*ck you all and Hail Satan.

Hm..I've never looked for Albanian records, but don't be so sure. My family was Maltese and I've had decent luck. I'd have to actually go visit to get anything further, I think..the language is pretty much Arabic written in Latin so its not like I can easily get it translated. Thankfully, in later years English became more prevalent.

Spin, for most people, any information from 1930 or so back is helpful. For most of that, its parents or grandparents. What area of the country they were from, names of siblings, estimated birth dates, etc. are all good. Information after 1930 isn't usually as helpful, plus it gets into privacy issues that I don't want to deal with.

You can email me through here and I'll poke around and see what I can find.

I'm warning you, a couple people here have become addicted to this.. Smiley

I still think a Stork landed in the wrong state in my case.

I was at mom's while she was gone and the Caller ID was one of two calls she was expecting. Great. This 'relative' has been communicating with mom and her sister.
I a more confused than ever!
North Carolina, being where "we" settled on mom's side, and "we" were fierce fighters and did not "fight by the rules".

Umm...I'm gonna stick with  the "stork avoiding bad weather and making an emergency landing" story a bit longer...

Ok, think I'm caught up on everyone who asked and found at least a little something for everyone. Let me know if I missed anyone.

Gewehr, I'm playing with it now. Should have something for you in a while.

I definitely remember Killian Creek. Still the coolest name I've ever heard the whole time I've been doing that.

Barbara, RE Maltese - I am currently studying Arabic and have access to more Arabic instructors than you can shake a camel's tail at (and almost any other language you can think of, too.) I'm not sure how complex the stuff you are looking at is. I am not real familiar with geneology. If you think I could help any, feel free to send me an e-mail.

I don't even know where to start. All I know is a tiny bit about grandparents, very little about parents. I guess I will just stay one of the blissfully ignorant when it comes to origins.

Thanks, Jason..fortunately, English is now one of the two official documents so any forms I've ever sent away for have been in English as well. Eventually, I'll do some research into parish records and may well take you up on that then.

Bob, don't be so sure. I'm pretty good and *may* be able dig up something. Grandparents are usually easier for me to find info on than parents, due to privacy laws. I can find a lot more info on someone from 1930 than I can from 1960.

I'd encourge those I've send info to do more research..look up some of the people online..there are so many county histories, etc. online, you may well find something. And always, if there's one particular person you want to konw more about, let me know and I can do some digging.

Barbara,

First, thank you very much for the work you have done.  Your nudge has re-energized the work I had been doing.

A search for genealogy freeware and shareware produces several hits.  At this point, I just want to build a standard tree, with the usual boxes, circles, and arrows (where is Arlo when you need him?)  Do you have any recommendations that might help separate wheat from chaff?

Thanks,
Huck

I'm not sure, honestly..a couple other people have asked me but I've always used Family Tree Maker, so I hate to give advice on a program I've never used.

If you find one, let me know and I'll send you the gedcom file for your data.

I have downloaded the freeware version of Legacy 5.0 from

http://www.download-by.net/home-and-hobby/genealogy/14077,legacy-family-tree,dl.html

am typing away, filling in info fields.

HEY!  This is work!  Thanks again for jump starting a stalled project.

Very cool..let us know how you like it since others have asked also. I just realized yours is the only one I didn't record into a gedcom. If anyone else would like the files, let me know. I made .pdf trees for everyone and sent along some census records , etc. for most folks, I think.

If anyone else wants me to look up something, let me know. I can usually dig up something..although it may not be what you want. I can't be held responsible for horsethieves, socialists, loyalists or damned yankees. Smiley
