any model train engineers? my Bday present pic.

so i have a 3.5' x 6' n scale model train set, finally got the tracks wired, and this is my present to myself, my birthday was friday, it's a passenger loco by Athearn, the markings are from the "coaster" , a San Diego commuter train, but i am going to repaint it, probably just silver, not sure.

My Dad has been working one in his free time.  N scale as well.  He has me buying stuff off of ebay for him.

I had a pretty elaborate HO scale layout about 10 years ago.  Kids, life got in the way.  Too many other hobbies too.  Still have all the rolling stock and some of the buildings.  Put the layout in storage and the rats decided it looked like a nice place to live.

Keep thinking of putting a shelf loop around my office and running it....

Well maybe someday.

I keep telling myself that I am NOT going to get into model railroading.

I'm afraid it's a freaking losing battle.

My Grandfather was a PRR conductor for years, many of them out of the Enola yards. I'd LOVE to make a partial mockup of the Enola yards in their heyday, but I'm afraid that it would mean surrendering virtually all of my basement.

My brother had an extensive N Guage setup some years ago. He and my father were the loco-nuts, me not so much.

My dad and uncle are O Gauge/Lionel freaks. Like dinosaur, my brother is into them as well. I always wanted to peek into my dad's gun cabinet rather than his train closet.

Every once in a while, I have the same arguement with myself.  I don't consider myself a big railroad fan, but I do enjoy watching them go buy if I'm stuck close to the front of a crossing.  

Several years ago (at least 10), I got to catch the last run of a local (SW VA) steam engine.  That was really cool.  The drive wheels of this beast were taller than me.

Nice looking stuff.  I had a big HO layout when I was younger.  I took it apart to get the space back, but I still have all of the cars, tracks, buildings and other assorted junk that made it's way on there.  I had quite a few cars - some day I'll have to take them out just to look at them.  It's a lot of fun if you've got the time, space and money.
