Inflatable Hotel Room, Only $50K per Night
« on: July 31, 2013, 08:18:22 AM »
The way the headline is written, when I first read it, I thought, "Paying someone $50K to stay in an inflatable room? It can't be so arduous that it's worth $50K." Then I read the story and found out they want YOU to pay $50K to stay in this crappy inflatable hotel room that (woohoo!) goes a whole twenty feet in the air on a scissorslift!

The room may always on the the top floor, but I don't think his elevator goes all the way to the top.

Plenty of "arty" people cross the line between art and just plain stupid.

Though I give credit to artists like this, who can actually sell their crap to some sucker, in the same way I give drug dealers credit for making a profit by providing a product that idiots buy.

All I have to say is that any inflatable hotel room that costs $50k had better be built by Bigelow Aerospace and be in orbit.
I promise not to duck.

Amen!  And the $ 50K price includes the ride up and back.

No alcohol is allowed inside, in hopes of discouraging people from using it as a bouncy castle.

WTF? They've completly defeated the awesome value of an inflatable room.

The cost is crazy, but you should see some of the strangeness going on at burning man in the NV black rock desert.  This guy doesn't hold a candle.

Plenty of "arty" people cross the line between art and just plain stupid.

Yes, and too many of them call themselves "architect."

There was a time when an architect was an architect, an engineer, and a master builder all wrapped up in a single package. Gradually, architects have ceded most of what they once did. The engineering aspects have been given up to professional engineers. Interior design has been usurped by interior designers. Construction has been taken over by contractors (and, more recently, "construction managers" -- ugh!). City planning has been taken over by ... city planners.

There's just not a lot left of what was once "architecture" for architects to do. And then those who are supposed to be architects go off and "design" idiotic stunts like this, instead of doing something relevant and responsible.

A pox on their houses.

From the pictures, that thing looks like it didn't cost $50K to make.   Paying that to rent it is silly.

Find a 5 star hotel/resort suite that costs $50K per night and there is no comparison.

It's not about paying for service and quality. It's paying for novelty.
Personally, I think the supposed novelty of this bit is not worth what they think it is, but you never know what people with more money then sense will get a kick out of.
