Hmmm... Dogs in camp
« on: August 28, 2006, 11:36:19 PM »
This thread over on THR.Org (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=218277) started me to thinking.  Dogs kept on leashes while on trail I agree with, but what about while at camp?  The few times I've camped with those who run dogs, the dogs have been under voice command but naught else.  Those dogs have been my 'buds, or of a friendly and tolerant nature even though we be stangers.

Dog owners, do you let your dogs have free roam while in camp?  If so/If not, why?

Non-dog owners, does it bother you to encounter non-leashed dogs at camp? If so/If not, why?
I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.

I think this hinges on the level of voice control the owner has over the dog(s). Of course when encountering a stranger with a dog or dogs - this is an unknown and it always makes me alittle nervous to run into a free running dog.

For myself, any well trained animal is welcome to run free on or off the trail, or camp. Keywords; well trained.

I have two dogs that go with me when camping.

One is on leash, one is off.

One listens, one doesn't.

It is unaccpetable to me for my dogs to be outside of my camp.
One day at a time.
