Go mop the kitchen floor. If that doesn't work, mate socks.

Drink to excess perhaps?

Naaaa...you'll pay for it in the morning.

Sleeping pills?

No, too many weird dreams and feeling befuddled the next day.

Accept that for some of us, reign of the Moon is when we are most aware.

That works, for me at least.

And at times, being toasted due to sleep depravation can be a real hoot.

An offering to Hypnos if you will.

Well, quite liking it, or you may find yourself with worse troubles.

Barbara, I envy you.  Work is usually the last thing I feel like doing when dealing with sleeplessness.  I usually end up here.

Can't do anything right now, but if the problem persists try this: go down to your local airport and find the place that rents airplanes and gives flying lessons (known as an "FBO"). Go up to their supplies counter and get yourself a copy of the Federal Aviation Regulations/Airman's Information Manual. Take it home, snug down in bed, and start reading. I guarantee you'll be asleep inside of ten minutes.

Usually difficulty with sleep is the result of previous actions/conditions.

Tomorrow, cut out any caffeine after noon, do some physical exercise (several hours before bedtime), eat a light dinner with nothing too spicy, and don't do anything too stimulating before bedtime.

Consuming alcohol to get to sleep is a bad idea.

I suggest a vigorous workout and a yoga class.  Oh, and a young blonde girlfriend.  This combo always makes me sleep like a log.Cheesy

I get up, have a sandwhich and something to drink, read or surf the Internet for 10-15 minutes and then go back to bed.  That usually works.

I just need to cut down on the ammount of ephedrine spray I use for my asthma.  It's hard because I wake up during the night or I can't get to sleep because I can't breathe and then I give myself a few sprays and then the ephedrine kicks in and i'm awake all night and end up falling asleep at school.

Last few nights that I wasn't able to sleep I detailed my car.  One suggestion do NOT take the seats out at 2 in the morning.  This can lead to some awkward moments.

Two nights in a row of having trouble sleeping and my car looked good as new.

I've been having sleep problems for at least five years now.

Solution? I don't know.

None of the prescription sleep medications work for me. If anything, they just make matters worse.

Sunday night I slept for almost exactly one hour. Last night I was up until daylight. I may have slept a couple of hours after that.

My doctor keeps telling me that the secret to falling asleep is to "get stupid," meaning think of something so mind-numbing that it can't possibly engage your brain.

The last time I had such a mind-numbing experience was listening to Al Gore's speeches in 2000.

If you find the solution, by all means let me know. I'm running on empty here.

Well, i'm hoping I can get a decent ammount of sleep tonight.  It's 9:30PM and I am done with my homework and so far don't feel the slightest bit of tiredness.  At least my asthma has been ok and I haven't needed any spray since this morning.  Maybe a late night swim will tire me out a bit.

Well, it's 2:26 am CST and I still can't sleep. I had one hour on Sunday night, and a couple of hours yesterday morning. If I'm lucky, I'll get a couple in after about 5 am.

I'm trying to be as quiet as possible, so as not to wake my wife.

Doesn't matter: I'll catch hell in the morning.

No protein for supper, carbs only. Believe it or not a COLD shower will relax you not a hot one. Opposite of what you think I know but it's true.

The ephedrine is obviously your problem. Now Monkeyleg on the other hand...

Yea, and don't be getting into drinking for ANY reason. Take it from a pro!

I had occasional insomnia problems about a year ago.  I'd lay in bed staring at the ceiling, get up, find something useless to do for an hour, get back in bed and stare at the ceilling some more, then get back up and continue doing something useless, and on and on until daylihgt.  The unfortunate thing was that once the sun came up and I had important things I had to do, I'd find myself bone tired and unable to stay awake.  It sucked.

Well, somewhere along the way, I took up cigar smoking as one of my "something useless to do while I should be asleep" activities.  Damned if it didn't cure me.  Midway through a cigar and I'd be relaxed and ready to fall asleep.  Every second or third night I'd smoke a cigar if I couldn't fall asleep, and after a few weeks I didn't need any help to get a full night's rest.

Looking back, I think the real solution was simply finding a way to relax and unwind.  Cigars did that for me.  Find a way to unwind and I bet you're insomnia will go away.

Relaxation & visualization - picture yourself under a big beach umbrella, nice warm day, hiss of the surf and laughing childeren in the distance.  You're reading a so-so potboiler, just had a big lunch and your eyes are getting heavy . . . . This imagineering, along with 5 mg of melatonin and a glass of warm milk should do it
