MIDI recording freeware/software synthesizer
« on: September 01, 2006, 06:24:06 PM »
Okay, so I'm going to at least try to sound somewhat like I know what I'm talking about...

I've got a Yamaha Clavinova digital piano connected to my computer through a serial port, which I use to transcribe music  into sheet music using Finale, sheet music notation software. What I'd like to know is if there is some kind of freeware/shareware out there that can record the MIDI data that is being sent to my computer from the piano. Being able to then edit the MIDI data would be a plus too. You kind of understand what I'm looking for? I think what I'm looking for would be some sort of software synthensizer/MIDI sequencer, but I'd like it to be free.

(just to let you know, when it comes to all this I'm a total noob...)

I don't know about MIDI freeware, per se, but I would think that depnding on what you really wanted to do with the data that Garageband would be a great choice.  It's audio software, but again depending on what you wanted to do with it you might be happy.

FWIW, I use Digital Performer as my MIDI/Audio software.
