Interesting take on 2014

Not sure I buy it. And even if it comes to pass, I'm very doubtful that having a R majority in both houses would be a good thing. Especially if an R wins in 2016.

Dear sweet fluffy Vishnu, no GOP majority in Congress and POTUS!  They've already demonstrated they don't want to repeal socialized medicine, they just want to rename it after themselves rather than Obama.  They'll add more Patriot Acts and start more wars, and keep spending high.

Woefully underestimates the ignorance, apathy, and gullibility of the majority of the electorate who put us here in the first place. Also, agree the (R) control is no panacea.

The republicans aren't our friends.  In my opinion: infighting is the best we can hope for at this point, before the debt monkey finally catch up with us.

Full on socialistic fervor will bring that debt monkey to bear a lot faster though!
I think the TEA party is a little too little too late. A quick decline and the opportunity to rebuild afterwards is the best that can be hoped for, and that prospect is pretty bleak at best.

R.s always disappoint when in power.  And I'd rather someone else slightly more deserving take the blame when the crash comes.

If we get to the elections. At the rate the Middle East is imploding, I expect an hot nuclear war within a year.  Talk about a wild card.

Israel is about out of options.  They cannot absorb a first strike, they cannot count on US support, and they face an existential threat.

I agree that current Republicans aren't our friends. On the D side you have Obamacare, on the R side you have "safety at all costs" Patriot Acts.

Unless we get a whole bunch of Rand Paul clones elected, I'm for split majorities and letting them deadlock on stuff. Doing nothing is the best we can hope for with these bozos.

Disagree on the "hot war" in the Middle East.

I think the Iran situation is far overblown in the media, and it's an agitprop tool for defense spending here in the US.

There was just recently an article I read on how Pakistan is getting ready to start selling nukes to Saudi Arabia.  Sounds like the Saudis are getting ready to take care of their own national defense rather than rely on us, and they're banking on MAD to protect them along with conventional forces.

Our poor relations with Iran date back to Nixon's petrodollar negotiations with Saudi Arabia, and Iran not being included or going along with that system.  If the petrodollar negotiations are "nixed" then the reason for negative relations with Iran are basically flushed down the toilet.  The whole nukular Iran thing is a load of hogwash, IMO.  It's been a media bugbear that gets pranced out once a year, with Iran being "weeks away" from a nuclear weapon every year for the last decade or more.  That boy has cried wolf too many times.

The Iranian program is definitely “real”, and I do believe the timeline to a deployable bomb is indeed “soon”.  Reliable Paki/Indian-grade devices that can be put on re-worked Chinese and Russian IRBM tech, probably a few more years. (Like what the Saudi’s are cashing in on now with the Pakistanis.)

However, I too think the end-game is MAD.  Iran essentially wants MAD to immunize them from any serious repercussions from their M.O. of engaging in constant Shia vs. Sunni/Wahabi, Shia vs. Jew, and Shia vs. West low grade proxy-warfare indefinitely.

Besides it playing into their ideological desires, they need to keep poking everyone with Hezbollah and other client militant groups of theirs for their internal stability. At home, the “revolution” is increasingly unpopular, and by maintaining a constant state of external crisis, now hopefully limited from going “full rodeo” by MAD, dissent is perpetually painted as being that much more treasonous.

Ultimately, it's the Islamic version of the Orwellian: "WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN AT WAR WITH EASTASIA THE ZIONISTS."

I suppose there is the rather real chance of missteps, and things escalating out of anyone’s control, but for what it’s worth, I don’t think that’s Iran’s actual intent.

Putting on my really mean cynical bastard hat for a moment, and assuming we can stay mostly out of it, if there is to be another nuclear war in human history, better it be regional than global, and better it be "them" than "us".

I promise not to duck.

Current entrenched "R's" would rather see a D win than an <expletive> tea party type who's too concerned with fiscal responsibility, limited government, and the Constitution. So I expect to see a concerted effort by the GOP patrician class to protect their perceived entitlement to elected office by actively working to subvert any genuine conservative candidates.

Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

Prior to WWII a whole bunch of really smart people read Uncle Adolf's book and scoffed at the screwball ideas contained therein.

Later one Barak Obama penned a ode to his dear departed Marxist father, and while everyone was busy fawning over him, not many actually read his book which described his political philosophy.

Meanwhile, in Iran you have a bunch of true believers that think that if they blast Israel off the map and push the Zionists into the sea that they will restore the Caliphate and resume the march of Islam across the world.

But everyone thinks that all they really want is MAD and some bushwah about petrodollars.   So you all can keep whistling past the graveyard, because the butcher's bill for the upcoming failure to contain and stop Iran's nuclear program will be like nothing ever seen.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

Yep. Throughout the past century, at least, we have a history of not believing what people say because "they couldn't be that crazy, it's just political posturing."

If Christie is the GOP nominee, he'll be the last GOP nominee. Entire states will pull out of the party at that point.

Romney was far too conservative on immigration, obviously.

The GOP should just get it over with and nominate the Democrat runner-up.

Hell, you can't really address what's wrong with the GOP without touching on primaries.  No point in even showing up if the enemy gets to nominate your candidates.
