While it's cool that they got ousted, what do we think the odds are that the laws that sparked this can get repealed?

Not really good news.  By resigning the task of representing the district, the Democrats in Colorado can now appoint one of their own to occupy the seat until the 2014 election instead of facing another round of running against Republican, Libertarian and Socialist candidates for the seat.

Yeah, sadly good and bad. My understanding is that this would have been a swing to the majority (or at least taking the majority from the Dems) had the Republicans won a recall. I wonder how much of it was her decision and how much of it was a DNC gun to her head?

I wager that it was 99% DNC.  We will give you a good job at one of our major donors, now resign.

Read an interesting tidbit on this somewhere, can't remember where now.  But the gist of it is the recall petitioners are pissed.   As in pissed enough to immediately kick into high gear and start gathering signatures to recall her replacement.

I hope this turns out to be true.

The way I read the Colorado constitution, the appointed replacement can still be recalled.

She is the rep for the district my brother lives in.  He and I don't talk but through my mom I have learned that this recall has kicked his ass in gear.  He worked going door to door to get signatures.  The prevailing attitude in that district is 'Enough of your high handed BS'.  The only reason Hudak was elected in the first place was because of her "support" for education.  My sister in law is a teacher so you can guess how the conversations went in that household and that is a major reason why we don't talk.  Apparently calling them statists was a no-no.

They are waiting for the name of the appointee to have them recalled too.  Based on conversations with my friends in CO the Denver and Boulder areas will have to carry the D ticket for the rest of the state.  People are PISSED off.

I also saw a related story where the Sheriffs who are suing the state were denied their lawsuit by a Federal judge. They can sue as individual citizens, but not in their capacity as Sheriffs.

Some are pissed because she didn't want to face the voters and chickened out, but the way I read it at the HQ, a forced resignation by the party was a distinct possible outcome, in order to retain the one-seat majority they had before the recall effort.

Yeah, we'll be stuck with someone put in by a Democratic replacement committee, but the real victory is the impact this, plus the previous two actual recalls last September will have.

A little ice water on the statist politicians can't hurt.  Let's hope we can dump more on them next November and boot out all of the "we know better than you serfs" politicians and those who forget their oaths of office.

couldn't the new senator do the same thing, once the recall is imminent?  either way I take this as positive news, as they are running scared.

I hope you can square things with your family, perhaps they didn't understand what a statist was?

Plus a .gov pension.   ;)  And by appointing a new rep Hickenlooper keeps the majority and seals his fate for national office.
