Watch value?
« on: September 05, 2006, 08:22:48 AM »
I usually stick to guns, gold, or cash, but today I took a watch for store credit.  I am attempting to assign a value.

My usual jewler is on vacation.  Anyone know anything about watches.  This is a 14K, woman's watch, Omega, probably from the 50s or 60s.

Start on e-bay?

You could try.
My jeweler/watch fiend friend tells me that men's antique watches sell well (I'm wearing an 18k gold manual wind Cyma as we speak) but women's watches sit forever.  Apparantly the gals don't like old stuff.  This is what he told me anyway.

Probably right.  I showed the watch to the secretraries and the receptionist.  They all turned their noses up at it, one of them described it as "awful" and "hideous", another as "blocky".

So much for the "retro" movement as to women's watches.Cheesy

I've no idea of value, but in the 1950s, Omegas had an excellent reputation for high quality.  Second-tier, I guess, just under the "big name" Swiss stuff.
