Music recommendation - Blackmore's Night
« on: September 26, 2006, 06:04:45 PM »
For those who appreciate really good modern music, a mixture of old Renaissance-style tunes and instruments with modern rock interpretation, I've just had the real pleasure of discovering Blackmore's Night.  The group is headed by Ritchie Blackmore, formerly of Deep Purple and a host of other groups, and the lead singer is his partner, Candice Night.  The group's Web site is at http://www.blackmoresnight.com/ for those interested.

Their music is just fantastic!  There are some examples on Youtube:

Renaissance Fair - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Nl5mV1cDDw

Olde Mill Inn - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTbhHRSyJ5s (a great drinking song)

Shadow Of The Moon - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgV0iY9OlVU (wonderful!)

Child In Time - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CW2xQW25epM (a re-cover of Deep Purple's classic, ending in the Medieval tune 'Mond Tanz')

I'll Be There - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ed6uyNqh-pY

Home Again - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjc2jQqQAqE (if this doesn't get your feet tapping, they've been amputated! Cheesy )

Castles & Dreams DVD excerpt - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vagyAsXxB3k (just watch Blackmore's fingering on the guitar!!!_

Minstrel Hall - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3m28hi-CVU (live - magnificent guitar work)

I hope you enjoy their music as much as I do!
Let's put the fun back in dysfunctional!

I'll check it out. I like old Rainbow and Deep Purple a lot.

Awesome.  Thanks, Preacherman.  I always dug Deep Purple.  Very cool that they cover "Child in Time."  The old live version of that is amazing.

Brings back a few memories.  Signature guitar, fusion of different styles.  A little Fleetwood Mack, a little Stone Pony, even a few strains of Roger McGuinn and the Byrds.

Thanks for the rush of memories.  Now where is my DP music?
