Assuming you're in a situation where you can just leave them on.  Some areas are way too picky about them, especially on non-emergency vehicles.

And there's a lot to be said for the ability to "chain up" while you still have a bit of momentum.
Off-road, one can assume that you can leave your chains on for a while.  ;)

Seen lots of muddy logging "roads" with ruts two feet deep.

The trick to conventional chains is putting them on before you need them.
