Not so lovely, really.

Has anyone else been getting increasing amounts of grammatically deranged, horribly spelled, sexually oriented SPAM as of late?

I'd get a piece here & there in the past, but it's never been a problem for me.  I'm very careful about disclosing any of my e-mail addresses and I've not used them any differently in the past month than usual.

However, seems as of late I'm being inundated by this stuff.  My SPAM filters & Bulk Mail are catching it all, but it's still weird.  It's all just started over the past week or two.

Here's a couple of screen caps. from my Yahoo! & Gmail accounts:

My spam level went up by a huge amount a few weeks ago and hasn't dropped off since.

A few years ago, one of the opponents of concealed carry here in WI submitted my email address to several porn sites. I was swamped with pornographic emails.

That's pretty much stopped now. But I do get the "buy this stock today" spam, the Viagra spam, and other junk.

What's even more irritating is when somebody emails me with detailed questions about concealed carry in Wisconsin, and I spend a lot of time writing a reply and then send it, only to get a message back that my reply was blocked by the user's spam filter.

You know, I must be quite lucky. I never get more than two or three pieces of spam a year. That's right, I did say a year.

Mine has also decreased dramatically in the last two weeks or so.

Same stuff that others have mentioned.

I seem to recall that someone recently (was it on slashdot, maybe?) noted that, historically, shorting those stocks for a day or two is profitable on average.  Obviously, the volume is usually so low that you can't make much money without artificially boosting the price and losing money if you don't have enough collateral and your broker forces you to cover.

A bunch of lowlife !@#$%^&*!s have been flooding the internet with spam from fake variants of my E-mail address.

I'd guess they're probably Russian or Chinese. I'd appreciate it if government agencies such as the FBI, SEC, and my state attorney general's office would even reply to my requests for assistance.

Tyme, I got into shorting stocks for a brief period...very brief.

Going short is about as risky as buying on margin. Essentially, it's the same.

Learned my lesson the hard way.

Wow, I don't have it as bad as you, but my GMail account still gets at least 15 spam messages a day. Google's spam filter seems to work pretty well, and the majority end up in the junk folder. They primarily consist of offers to buy erectile dysfunction drugs online, followed by incoherent strings of meaningless text.

What's annoying, though, is I keep the account as private as possible. I only give the address to individual people I actually know- I've never signed up for anything with it or used it any other way.

Google sells your address to spammers..and then is kind enough to have the mail go into your spam filter. And then gives you spam recipes, which is kind of cool.

If it was Google selling my address to spammers, I'd expect more "conventional" junk mail, like a known company offering fantastic fixed-rate refinance offers, or letting me know about my pre-pre approval for an Ubercard.
