Call me an evil racist but... They were Israeli citizens as well, so moreso locals than Westerners. If Palestinians hacked up American tourists, we should respond with air strikes, freezing their assets, sanctions, salting the earth, et al. An American passport should make the local warlords, criminals, terrorists, blah blah cringe, firmly apologize for the inconvenience and go hack up someone else. I have no issue with anything that accomplishes or furthers that goal.
If anyone that permanently moves to a troublespot and gets citizenship there? Meh, their choice. We should stay out of it. Same for any American that chose to get themselves too involved with the locals.
