Rick Santorum announces his candidacy for 2016
« on: December 11, 2014, 02:00:08 PM »
But this time he promises it'll be different.  ;/

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/rick-santorum-is-running-for-president-again--and-says-this-time-will-be-different/2014/12/09/0c955498-7fca-11e4-9f38-95a187e4c1f7_story.html

At this point, I'm wavering between attributing this to the normal politician hubris, narcissism, and sociopathy; and thinking he's getting paid off by the DNC to screw up the GOP primaries.

Obviously not. However he tries to re-brand himself, the so-con history will make him a lightning rod for the left, galvanizing them to higher turnout in opposition. None of his hypothetical positives outweigh the stereotype.

Calling him a socon is an insult to socons everywhere. He is to socons what WBC is to Southern Baptists. He's essentially a caricature of them.

I know it's a metaphor, but that actually would be pretty cool to watch.  :O

Robert would be willing to set that up, if someone can arrange it.

I have begun to think the MSM just likes to encourage Santorum to make conservatives look bad. There is nothing redeeming about that man. I have some disagreement with some social conservative positions, although I also respect religious conviction. Santorum however is like the worst of liberal nanny state without even the pretense of personal freedom combined with the worst of social conservative moral authority without even a truly conservative fiscal policy.

I'm OK with banning the furries, personally.

Some would call me a religious fanatic....and even I think the guys nuts.

Santorum is a whackjob. He is the very personification of the wild eyed fundamentalist Christian that the left likes to portray as every conservative being. He's more interested in forcing his views on other people using the force of the government than letting people be.

Savage is such a vile specimen of humanity that his condemnation generally means decent non psychosexual retared perverts can safely assume the condemned is ok.

Except that santorum is not a fundy, merely a roman catholic that actually believes rc doctrine.

Which is fine until he wants to force it on the rest of us. That's the part I have issue with.

A.  I don't think Santorum would force anything on America, religion wise.  No way he would be even able to.  Would not be a bad thing, though, to have a good man of faith in that office for a change of pace.  Wouldn't worry me a bit.  I'd be more interested in what he had in mind for actually running the country regarding the things that matter, security, immigration, and taxes regulation and economic wise.

B.  Take your pick.  Santorum or Hillary.  Think about this.  It's likely Obama will replace another Supreme Court Justice.  But it's likely liberal for liberal.  But beyond that, the conservative judges start to fall.  If Hillary or another Marxist gets the White House, the constitutional republic becomes an even worse Administrative State than it is now.

My main problem with santorum is that he is for amnesty and more immigration.  And for more spending.  No different from the other so called conservatives in the gop.

He would have so little success pushing socon issues might as well have any number of godless wankers as potus.  Think about gwb and his great socon triumphs.  There werent any.  No pro life bills passed congress to be signed.  He did not rescind dadt.  He did not insist congress move in the face of lawrence vs texas.

Santorum would have a similar paucity of socon accomplishments.

I think I'm the only person here to have met him...

Loves big government, hates freedom,  loves spending money, meh on firearms but stayed away from the subject because he knew it was political suicide. Basically, think the worst strain of Republican. Actually, he fits the left ist stereotype of Republicans. Disturbingly so.

I wonder if that's why he got the heave ho from his senate seat to a D.  The people figgered if we want a D we ought to just elect a real one.
