Speaking for myself, I'm perfectly comfortable with the idea of you being wrong. Further, I applaud you for having the courage to 'fess up.  =)

Yeah, right.  OK then.  As long as you see it my way...

Now lemme buy you a beer.

What is the proper water testing procedure, btw?

I imagine you can generally reseal them under most circumstances.

Submerged (via conveyor) to a depth of three feet.  Any bubbles are cause for reject.  Most leaks were caused by the spot weld in the hinges.  Although once when I was there the seals were out of spec and caused every can to fail.  That shut down the line for two days while we waited for new seals to arrive.  All the old out of spec seals were later installed on reject cans and sold to the one guy that sells them to all the distributors in the US.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

One thing I've always liked and respected about Micro is that he does nothing halfway. When he was a socialist, he was a full on "the .gov is going to tell you what to do for your own good and you'd better like it" socialist.

Hm? When I was a socialist I was a libertarian socialist (we're talking after I turned 17, right?)

Honestly that was so many years ago I don't really remember the exact details. If I'm misremembering I apologize.

Huh?  You're looking for bubbles coming from a can, sealed at atmospheric pressure, then immersed to 3 feet to add an additional pound or so of external pressure on it?

Don't add up.  Seems to me water would leak in, not air out in that test.  Was it hot water, so the air in the ammo box would expand?

I think it's because the air is buoyant. As it escapes,  the water leaks in.

Whatever the exact cause,  it does happen.  That's also why sunken boats bubble for a bit.  You can replicate it with an empty soda bottle and a loose lid.  Or submerge an open canteen in a stream.

My fuel gauge had been acting funny, giving wildly false readings.  There are two senders in that Subaru tank, and the outputs are averaged by some arcane Japanese method.

Got a goodly bump from a guy in a pickup truck behind me at a traffic light.  No damage, just some marks on my rear bumper.

Fuel gauge worked fine after that.

Did you get his contact info?  I'd be willing to let him bump my Saturn and see if it helps.

If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

For those of us who don't remember.

Opposite/Hypotenuse
---------------------------  = Opposite/Adjacent
Adjacent/Hypotenuse

Opposite/Adjacent = Tangent

One of the few identities I remember from geometry.  Seen it elsewhere, too, been waiting for a while for any excuse, tangential or not, to use it.

I feel better now.

Now, on to my next "lying-in-wait-for-an-excuse-to-use" joke.
