Union Being Bullied
« on: April 24, 2015, 01:07:48 PM »
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/04/24/union-cancels-boeing-vote-says-gun-toting-workers-told-it-to-take-off/

Looks like a case where the employees don't want/need the union and the union is seeing how it feels to be "bullied."

I don't condemn the use of violence or guns to get a point across in matters such as this but I also realize that sometimes unions have been known to be rough on those that don't mold to their way of thinking.

I don't condemn the use of violence or guns to get a point across in matters such as this but I also realize that sometimes unions have been known to be rough on those that don't mold to their way of thinking.

Buddy of mine had to do that once.

Two "labor organizers", each large guys trying to look very intimidating, showed up at his doorstep because he was saying negative things about a unionization attempt. Basically, that he worked at a union shop and it sucked. They wanted to "talk" to him about how his experiences were untrue and recommend he not tell folks about his experiences. At which point, my buddy inserted an MAC10 barrel into one of the thug's nostril, and escorted them off his property.

Betting this is the same boat. Biggest beefest union reps they could find, and sent them at 9 or 10 pm to "educate" about the union. Gee, no surprise, not everyone rolls over and plays dead.

I absolutely endorse the use of violence or guns when thugs show up at your doorstep afterhours.

Based only on my own experience with unions, it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.

IF this actually happened, the union thugs did not report it to the police.  I say they are just lying.

Or the union reps know that they don't have a leg to stand on if they were to report it.

Had this happen to a friend... Yeah, a friend, that's it....

Friend's wife worked at a union shop, state .gov agency in fact...  Union was sending people out door to door to... encourage people to vote for their endorsed candidate... It turns out that they got access to voter registration info and to conservative homes, the thugs encouragers were always two bigger guys... Well friend had heard about this happening... And is not exactly what one would call "petite"...

So when a couple big guys knocked on the door around 9:30 at night wearing SEIU hats, he opened the door with friends. Six of them, in fact, small but highly persuasive.

The visitors were listened to briefly but politely, and told politely that under no circumstances would their candidate be getting either of their votes... The visitors quickly wore out their welcome when they began to issue very thinly veiled threats...  Threats captured on a small pocket recorder... Thugs were told in no uncertain terms to leave post-haste... Then the mouthier of the two had a lapse in judgement... And said, "and if we don't?"

Mr. Mouthy quickly got cross-eyed as he now has the muzzle of a .357 revolver planted firmly betwixt the running lights. He kinda gasped like a landed fish a few times then says, "we'll call the cops on you!" At which point the recording device was produced, and they were told to please do, as they would likely love to hear the earlier threatening language uttered by the two gentlemen in question... Amazingly, said gentlemen decided they were needed elsewhere, and never did the union darken their doorstep again...

My ex-SIL, worked as a secretary (non-union) at a public school about the time the Scott Walker recall election was in process.
She was harassed by teachers and had her car vandalized (at school). She thinks it's because her husband put a Scott Walker sign in front of their house.

Quote from: Link in OP
The union looking to organize workers at Boeing's South Carolina plant has put its plans in a holding pattern, claiming workers are so opposed to signing up that they chased labor leaders off their porches at gunpoint.
This tells me the union goons wouldn't take "No! Go Away!" for an answer.

My grandfather told me that NFA '34 was enacted in part because "somewhere" - possibly a steel mill or coal mine - when union goon squads attacked a truck convoy of "scab" workers during a strike, said "scabs" defended themselves with Thompson SMGs that the company had purchased and issued to some men they'd hired to ride in the trucks.

Union goons lost.  =D

I can't swear the story is true, but I do know of some other - fortunately milder! - forms of union intimidation that were tried on my family in the past, so I have NO sympathy for the union organizers.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was just all made up because they knew the vote would go against them.

No I would believe it actually happened, simply because I have heard reports that the union thugs were aggressive towards Boeing employees and they did go to Boeing employee's residences after obtaining a list of such, but their campaign suddenly and mysteriously ended shortly after it began.

I don't see the union normally giving up so easily and quickly without workers standing up to them with threats of violence...and I don't see local LE taking the side of an aggressive, uninvited "visitor" to a citizen's home, and I'm betting the union thugs knew they couldn't exactly call the popo and complain that their strongarm tactics weren't well received.

I'm sure the reports are accurate. I think it's a travesty. Those poor Boeing workers are starving on their slave wages, the nice men from the union just wanted to stop by and give the families a food basket, and those iggerent rednecks pulled guns on 'em (the union hospitality committeee).

Some days being a union thug is a tough job.

I know someone who works at Dixie Boeing. Union Boeing despises them.

At my job we supply a major food company that everyone here eats from. We cannot say who we are building a particular machine for becacuse the company does not want to have its northeast union plant find out that their midwest open shop is once again installing new equipment while the union shop is not. And that makes me a little happier building it.

Choices.  It's always about the choices.

40 hours at $X/hr, or 15 hours at $X+1/6X hours with union benefits I have to pay for out of that.

Can I have a minute to think about that?

I had a grievance filed against me by Chicago 705 Teamsters when I pointed out to some of the smarter members that it would take somewhere between 14 years to 16 years to recover the two weeks of lost wages during the two week strike over a nickel in pay raise.  (The real reason was to increase the companies contribution to the Union's Health and Welfare Fund, aka the union slush fund, and the fund used to pay the union officials.)

When I pointed out that if they wanted to take it to the Six Man board, I was good with that, as the results, win, lose, or draw; have to be posted for all employees to see.*  I stated I wanted the math to posted in 6 inch letters on the board in the employee breakrooms, and that I would insist going to all the stations in the Chicagoland area to explain my "sin" to each and every shift.

* - Teamsters ID's were protected "A driver at the ORD Station", "A Clerk at the MDW Station", "A part-time driver at the PLF station", etc."  Managers and supervisors were ID'd by name.
