What aircraft did I just see?
« on: May 04, 2015, 03:32:08 PM »
Looked Roosian, had an air inlet spike like a Mig 21.  Twin engines, stacked on on top of the other.  Wings vaguely reminded me of Mig 17 or 19.  Two seat, side by side under a single canopy.

It was in use to demonstrate some upper atmosphere stuff, purported to be well over Mach capable.

No pics, caught sight of it in the doctors waiting room on TV.

Any ideers?

I'm trying to think of any other aircraft that configured the engines like that. I'm sure there is one but that is a Lightning dead giveaway. And the brits seem to love the side by side cockpit, a two seat Hawker Hunter looks a bit cozy.

I'm so contrarian that I didn't respond to the thread.

Lightning is the only one I could think of matching the physical description, but I had no idea they were side by side instead of tandem.

An Electric Lightning, not to be confused with gas, diesel, or coal-fired Lightnings?

I tell ya, looking at the one I originally saw, I figured it just had to be some Rooskie small-run interceptor.  A Yak 14.4 "Flatbread" or some such.
