A concerted move to ban a historical symbol of defiance towards centralized, federalized, you do as I say because 'gubbermint!' power structure worries me a tad bit.

I wonder how they'll start attacking the Gadsden Flag?

Bright future ahead of us!  =D

Replacing the one word in bold above with any of multiple variants "marginalize/invalidate/supercede/etc." suggests the progressive attitude toward COTUS, much less a flag. =(

Bubba Watson says he's going to paint over the rooftop flag on his show-original General Lee. Facebook followers tell him, "No". Some nicely, some not so much

I guess they'll just have to re-write the Dukes of Hazzard story line. Bo and Luke are actually gay lovers, Daisy is a trans-sexual and is secretly having an affair with Lulu Coletrane. Boss Hogg's bar is the local LGBT hangout.

It's interesting (is "ironic" the right word?) that the Confederate naval jack actually stands for freedom now much more than the US flag, and how many people hate it for that.

The limerick, peculiar to English,
Is a verse form that's hard to extinguish,
Once congress, in session,
Decreed it's suppression,
But people got around it by writing the last line without any rhyme or meter.

FB meme going around speaks how George Jefferson would say honkey upwards of 21 times in an episode of the Jeffersons but there aren't any calls for that to be pulled from the air.

No, seriously, who on earth thought it was a bright idea to tell a bunch of rednecks* to not fly a Confederate flags?

They might as well have sent out flyers reminding them to bring every flag they could get ahold of.

I didn't have time, but I had wanted to put out a couple of Confederate flags on the 4th. I'm obviously a Yankee, but wanted to do it just as a tiny measure of push-back.

Back in 87/88 time frame I had a 68 Ford Short Bed truck that I had put a Confederate Flag in the back window of.  After blowing the motor up in it, friends of mine dropped a motor down in it and sold the thing.  An older black gentleman bought it and left the flag in the window.

Today the SC Senate voted to remove the Battle Flag from the Memorial where it flies, 36-3. My understanding is that tomorrow it goes to the House, where the fight should not be as easy.

Personally my money is on it coming down.

This Friday I have to drive down to COLA in my ratty ass Eclipse. I will conform to stereotype by flying my brand new Battle Flag the whole way down.

It has been on the memorial since 2000.

The memorial is next to the Statehouse, hence the photog's always frame it as if it's flying from the actual statehouse.  Hence the outrage.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

(AP) -- COLUMBIA, SC (AP) -- The U.S. House has voted to ban the display of Confederate flags at historic federal cemeteries in the Deep South.

The low-profile move came late Tuesday after a brief debate on a measure funding the National Park Service, which maintains 14 national cemeteries, most of which contain graves of Civil War soldiers.
