Books on dog training.
« on: November 06, 2006, 01:38:51 PM »

I've a shepherd something going on about 3.5 months old.  I figure it's past time for us to train each other, so any recomendations on a couple of good dog training books for me to read and not for him to chew on?

Also if you are worried about your dog chewing make sure you have lots of stuff around that you want him to chew. i.e. rawhides, toys, etc.

I like Wolters training methods, I trained my lab with his style and I'll be getting a German Wirehaired or Pudelpointer in the next year or so and I'll use his methods then also.

Thanks, per your recommendation I just ordered that book from amazon.  I also ordered a DVD on training, too:  "The Dog Whisperer" it's not Cesar Milan, BTW, but the orirginal guy.

Regarding chewing, like most any puppy, he's a chewer.  Lucky for me his default chew toy are tree branches found on walks (I live out in the woods).

Next chore is to take him to the vet for his shots.

He looks like a light colored shepherd 'cept someone stuck the wrong head on him.  IOW, a parts bin mut...  Smiley
