I never even thought about the hind engine cooling problem.

They make a big super scoop to help with the rear engine cooling

One thing I didn't see talked about was my concern about  the booms/stabilizer putting torsional stresses on the wings.

Looks fragile and inefficient.  And the cabin noise must be terrific.

The same design type of tail boom works just fine- you see it on the OV-10 Bronco II too.

Cessna builds excellent aircraft. They may not be the fastest but they tend to be stout and have decent flying characteristics.

The 337 design was used as a FAC aircraft in Vietnam, designated as the O-2.

They do have an unusual sound signature.

Is in-flight engine failure in a cross-engine twin that much of a problem

Yes

Extra engine didn't help much when the Cubans shot two of them down....

I did not know that.

Yep.  Sure sounds different.

Rear prop slapping the wash pulses from the front prop, I guess.

Pokin' around, I found this one of the Tu-95, supposedly the noisiest prop plane around.  Four engines with contra-rotating four-blade props.  Talk about one prop slapping the air of the front prop!

Technically interesting, but boring otherwise.  Note the difference in prop RPMs  about 1/3 of the way in:

(Makes you me wonder how much the sound power generated subtracts from the working power. [:D Not a real question.])

Thanks for the explanation of low-speed engine failure of a cross twin,Fly 320s !

The EAA chapter out at the Aurora (IL) airport holds their Young Eagles program 4-5 times a year.  One of the volunteer pilots has  Skymaster that Robert has been up in 3 or 4 times.  He says that's it's his favorite to fly in, because he gets to sit in the front seat and occasionally the pilot will let him take the controls.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.
