If you smash a foot-sized chunk of it near the frame while it's under that much water pressure, it should do a pretty good job of ripping loose at the edge.

The water is pushing the wrong way?

What about the rear window?  The ones I've seen broken were all tempered rather than laminated.

You have to get from, presumably, the front of the car to the back.

Why?  I usually had a drill in the car.

Because a hardened point is better at breaking glass than a flat one.  A bullet-head hammer should work without modification, even a ball peen will put a lot more pressure into a smaller area than a traditional flat head hammer.  All without the pain of trying to drill into hardened too steel.

My thought is that an actual 12 ounce ball peen hammer on a foot long haft is going to go through glass easier than a little hammer with a point but weighing only a couple ounces and having a haft only has long as your grip.

Yes, sort of, although I'm not sure I see the relevance.  In either case - and my fundamental point - their death (that is, drowning in the submerged car) was not a result of the cops coldly pronouncing a death sentence on them because of their crimes.

...

Their death was no more punishment for stealing the car than it was for driving without headlights or walking out the door in the morning.

I wasn't talking about punishment, either by the cops or cosmic agency.  I was talking about "first cause."  Or at least proximal cause.

One could delve deeper into that and argue that the first cause was parental neglect or the Courts letting "priors" go, or whatever, but that night, the first cause of their deaths was stealing a car.
....
I got one of those combination hammer-seat-belt cutters and after I hefted it and looked at how awkward it was to use, I thought of getting either one of those shorty ball pein hammers or another spring-loaded prick punch.  Ended up getting the punch and a knife.

Still have a slight problem as to where to keep them, bearing in mind possible panic and disorientation.  I won't hang stuff from my mirror, not even my handicapped sticker, and they don't accomodate lanyards easily anyhow.  So right now, they're in the console box between the seats.

I hadn't thought of using my Personal Defense Firearm to bust a window, that's a good idea, I guess.

You makes yer bet and you plays your hand.

230RN, I've seen that they're including a mounting bracket with at least some of the devices.  Something that you screw or glue into place.

Yeah, the non crappy ones do indeed come with a bracket that is pretty dang secure.  I've put them in a couple cars for people when I was doing other mods.  Depending on the layout of the interior on the center console (by the driver's right knee) or the B-pillar (By the driver's left shoulder) seem to be the popular spots.

I put them in with 3M brand heavy duty trim tape.

Which made me think of this:  If possible, jettison the gun, the mags, the flashlight, the speed loaders and other high density objects in order to get to the surface.... I'm only half kidding here, I just thought of that.  Don't know if there's time to do that before busting the window, probably depends on the situation.

May be something to plan for.  Training, you know...

So we're saying "yes" to APS Saturday night mud fights? Because we could do it up just like the WWF and give ourselves wrestler's names and stuff. I still say it would be awesome.  =D

Also, the sharper the point, the easier it is to break.  A cheap little safety hammer is easy to buy and easy to leave in the car.  You are less likely to take it out to do something else.

I have a cheap seat belt cutter windshield breaker
it's got a spring loaded carbide point to press against the glass it ao it loads the spring and then supposed to punch a hole in it
I need to go and test it
kind of hard to do that without ruining somebody's glass.
it's got to be somebody out there I don't like

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

Auto glass shop ought to have junk pieces for you to test on.  Thought of that myself, but haven't actually done it because I guess they're mostly windshields.

Lotsa things I've thought of but haven't done. :)

When we did training using the Resqme tool, we were instructed to use it on a lower corner of a side window.  More chance of a clean break and less chance of injury to the patient or operator.

Summer is coming up so there should be some fuckface in your area leaving a baby in the car while they go into Walmart.

Any tool used for the purpose of busting glass needs to be secured.  Who knows where crap will end up after a collision with water and possible inversion.

A revolver in an auto holster would be great for this.
