I need some new Christmas music to listen too. All suggestions from rock to jazz to classical to church-type music appreciated.

I've only got a couple of Christmas recordings, such as Chicago's, tubist Sam Pilafian's jazz recording, and a couple of classical orchestral recordings.

I want some new listening material, you guys have great taste in a lot of things, and I'm sure it's the same in Christmas music!

For an interesting mix of rock, folk and classical influence, try the Jethro Tull Christmas Album. I've linked to the copy with a bonus DVD - there's also one (slightly cheaper) without the DVD.

I know the Moody Blues have a Christmas album... Haven't heard it, but I'm a fan of the group.

Would George Winston be in there anywhere? He has some good "wintery" albums. (He also has an amusing little note on his "December" album, in which he apologizes for playing hymns and assures his audience that he's really not religious.)

I avoid music that's been rewritten to be "poltically correct."

For example, think of the song Winter Wonderland.

There's a line in it that says "In the meadow we can build a snowman, then pretend that he is Parson Brown . . . "

The version played by the local grocery store has changed it to "In the meadow we can build a snowman, then pretend that he's a circus clown . . . " :barf:

That's just blasphemy. There's simply no way to improve on Shane MacGowan and Kirsti MacColl singing that song.

I'm no fan of most Christmas music, but there're good albums to be had. Some of my favorites are the Chieftans' Bells of Dublin, The Asylum Street Spankers' A Christmas Spanking, Rhino Records' Blue Yule compilation, and Willie Nelson's Pretty Paper.

If you like the old school stuff, Perry Como, Elvis, Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, Dean Martin and Nat King Cole recorded more Christmas albums than anyone could stand to listen to.

I like the Windham Hill Winter Solstice CDs. I've got some other non-traditional acoustic and jazz type Christmas/holiday season type music, but I can't remember the names of most of it.

If you don't have a Bob Rivers Christmas CD, get one (at least check out some of the tracks on Amazon). He's put out a few, including "I Am Santa Claus" and "White Trash Christmas" and they are all funny as hell.

Before you decide you have forever heard enough of The Nutcracker Suite, check out the Duke Ellington version. Great music and wonderful for irritating hide bound traditionalists. Cheesy

doczin: try TSO. They started out in the 80's as the metal group Savatage: "Carol of the Bells" done with electric guitars mixed in to the orchestra is just awesome (I think they call it "Christmas Eve, Sarejavo")...

They also did Beethoven's Last Night, which is frequently in my player...
