The new survey said gun ownership has increased even though gun violence rates and crime in the United States have reportedly dropped. The survey suggested that self-defense was an important factor in the rise in gun ownership.

"The desire to own a gun for protection – there's a disconnect between that and the decreasing rates of lethal violence in this country," Matthew Miller, a Northeastern University and Harvard School of Public Health professor and one of study's authors, told The Guardian. "It isn't a response to actuarial reality."

Still (or again) ignoring the very real possibility that the decrease in violent crime may be attributable to the fact that bad guys are smart enough to avoid being shot when possible. I admit that there's no proof that the decrease in crime has been directly caused by the increase in the number of armed citizens -- but it's equally trie that we can't write off the possibility.

So the number is 17+ and you are a super-owner?

Heck I have more than 17 1911 type Firearms, way more than 17 Revolvers, let's not even talk about Milsurp types, derringers, 22lr rifles, etc, etc. I'm almost halfway there on just NFA Firearms if you don't include suppressors.

First, did they really say that 8 guns makes you a super-owner?  ;/ Not even in the double digits, and they're super-users? Gay LGBTQ

And their average is seventeen. Also ;/

A few days ago, I heard about a study that found the number of gun-owning households had increased by quite a bit in the past few years. Anybody else see that?

Are you a gun 'super-owner'?

Yes.

And as the collecton has grown, I've had the opportunity to judge people's reactions, expressions, and body language to different answers. "20", "30", "40" etc.

I've since found "I'm not really sure" to be the answer that bothers them, or impresses them the most.  =D
I promise not to duck.

Not impressed. :P  I'm not even an 8-gun super-owner, and I have to take my time adding them up in my noggin.

Same here.  Though I had one ask about 'high capacity magazines' and I said "literally no idea, but I know I stopped counting just AR mags at 100...so...probably more than 200 and less than 1000"
Them: I meant magazines, not bullets
Me: so did I

That doesn't surprise me. I generally assume that someone who refers to modern ammunition as 'bullets' is not going to get what is and is not a lot of ammo anyway.

Another one about capes:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHXtKRCqZCY

I'm not sure how many guns I have.  It's about 15 or 20, probably closer to 15.  So I don't know if I'm super or not  ;/

The very few friends close enough to ask that question either don't care or already know.
On the rare occasion a new acquaintance should ask that question I will pause, stare off into space for a few minutes, maybe move my lips like I'm mentally counting, then come back and say " I don't know for sure anymore, I'd have to count them."
Strangers or even worse, survey takers, either get no answer if I'm in a really good mood or "none of your damn business" if I'm not. I think the last time I was in a really good mood was Spring of '07.

The "super-owners" start at  8 guns, people; 17 is the "average."

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/sep/19/us-gun-ownership-survey

They said super-owners have up to 140 guns. I guess above that you're a super-domestic-terrorist?
