Happy Winter Solstice!!!
« on: December 21, 2016, 08:50:59 AM »
Today marks the beginning of  the long march of days back to tolerable temperatures.

So in honor of this Pagan celebration-

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

In the Southern Hemisphere.

In the Southern Hemisphere.

After 3 days of sub zero temps, I can deal with spring getting here sooner. Not supposed to be subzero until late Jan/early Feb.

Well, it's referred to as "entering the bright time of the year."

Temperatures notwithstanding.

Went out on the balcony at 4 AM-ish, did a quick welcoming ritual, ran back inside.  No, I was not skyclad.  Not at 24°, I warn't.

Happy Yule.  Brrr.

It sucked, but we got 7-10" of ice from it, time to go fishing. I don't mind the cold, hate the wind.

I did notice just the other day that it was 9 degrees here in STL-land, but 9 below in Prairie Du Chien. My wife had just returned from the Keys, where high temps were in the 80s.

After a blistering summer that dragged into a very warm & dry autumn, I'm glad the cold temperatures have finally returned to the Colorado front range.  We've had maybe two snow storms so far this winter, with only one of them (last Fridays) dropping a decent amount of snow.

But we need more snow and cool temperatures, else all that lovely Kentucky Bluegrass so popular out here will be dry and dead by next July.  Not that I would find that to be a bad thing mind you...
