GigaBuist looks like an idiot at the plumbing store
« on: January 04, 2017, 11:02:19 PM »
Too funny not to share.  A bit long but probably worth it.

We're doing a massive overhaul of our irrigation system at work and I'm in charge of the ozone and chlorine gas injection stuff.  Anything touching this has to be schedule 80 PVC, not 40.  Our irrigation supply company is great with pumping out shd 40 and shd 26 stuff to us but we've recently found out they really don't stock much 80 and that's crimping me lately.  So we do a little huddle and our main maintenance guy that's been there for 30 years suggest another place to get parts willy-nilly.

I call them up the next morning (today), speak to somebody and give him my list of like 4 normal things I need and one weird one and he says they've got the normal stuff but not sure about the weird one.  I'm headed there anyway, don't bother checking inventory.

I get there, I'm ignored at the counter for a solid 5 minutes, finally somebody gets to me, I explain my list and he comes back 5 minutes later with no parts and somebody more experienced than him to solve the confusion issue.  I'm like "Well, 1.5" slip on one side and 1" female thread on the other side."  He's not picking up what I'm putting down.  Eventually he tells me PVC parts like that are literally not made.  I start looking for pictures of my phone of anything resembling what I need, fully admitting my terminology might be wrong but also say, "I usually just pick this stuff up from [irrigation supply company] but they don't stock much schedule 80 so I'm here."

Experienced guy: "Wait, are you talking about electrical PVC or plumbing?"
Me: "Plumbing."
Guy: "Ahhh!  Yeah you got the wrong door.  The plumbing company is next door. We're electrical."
Me: "That would explain all the light bulbs and such!"

We all had a pretty good laugh.

Kudos to the plumbing supply place too.  They had all of my random needs.  The place was seriously 2.0 acres of plumbing parts on racks.

My wife sent me to Dominos once to pick up a pizza she ordered from Papa Johns. I did blame the wife, but everyone assumed it was an excuse so it was still embarrassing.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

Now that's funny.
I needed a mod to change my signature because the concept of "family friendly" eludes me.
Just noticed that a mod changed my signature. How long ago was that?

Luckily, the good supply house here is both plumbing and electrical, so you can make your own puddle to stand in while you're rewiring.

Good one.

What's the plumbing suppliers name?  I'm local, have TID#, and always looking for a good source.

Sounds like the sort of place the original owner of the house my ex wife and I had must have used.  They apparently just liked to buy random adapters, because there would be 4-5 stacked to go from a 3/8" threaded floor pipe to the inlet side of a 3/8" threaded stop, then a couple more between the stop and the faucet allowing an odd (metric, I think) size bit of copper tubing to be used there.

Ya know, I don't mean to criticize, but I look like an idiot pretty much everywhere I go. But you don't see me starting a thread every time.  ;/

Nor I, but I can pile on to an existing thread.

Yesterday I ran into Kroger to get tortillas. Grabbed them and checked out... and as I was handed the receipt realized my children had finished the last of the milk so I took the bagged tortillas with me to the back of the store to get milk and checked out with the same checker again. Laughing, she asked if I got everything this time.

I actually hadn't, but didn't realize I had forgotten lettuce as well until I was home. Ah, well.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

A few years ago my younger brother wanted to make some guacamole. He went to the store and came home with a bag of limes.

More proof that only an idiot would want guacamole.

Maybe you should, then you would have less time to be an idiot.

Have you, at long last, learned nothing? There's always time for idiocy.

When I forget my shopping list, I always end up buying twice the stuff I really needed.

"Was mustard on the list?  I'd better get some just in case."

So I end up with a lot of "two" of things when I get home.  But at least they're consumables.

Then, since those "things " are sort of on my mind, next time I forget the list, I buy yet a third one of the "things" and I feel like a jerk when I put the stuff away and find two more of them already on the shelf.

Well, I am a jerk anyhow, but things like that bring it into focus.  :old:

Right now, I have two twelve-packs of toilet paper.  Since there's no more room in the bathroom cabinets, there's a twelve-pack sitting outside the bathroom door.  Looks kind of stupid.  Especially stupid to me, since I already have a couple of rolls in my "five-day snowstorm emergency supply" storage area.

I'm not signing this one so nobody will know who posted it.

I bet that really soured his guacamole experience.

Well, he wasn't really a professional.  Cooking was only an avocation.

In the land of the zombie apocalypse, the toilet paper hoarder is king.

I have three Costco sized cases of Cottonelle (because Costco only stocks it a few times a year) in the storeroom, so I should be at least an apocalypse Baron.  =D

That, baby food, and diapers would seem to be an oft-forgot apoco-prep gold standard for trading stock.

Even if you ain't got no baby or babies.

Oh, and 7.62 X 39 ammo.

Even if you ain't got no AKs or SKSs.
