Sky Harbor Airport (Phoenix) - Southwest Airlines plane taxiing to the gate tangled wings with a Frontier Airlines plane that was pushing back from its gate for departure. Jamis, what's the deal on something like this? I assume the Southwest plane was cleared to approach its gate. Frontier says their plane was cleared to push back. At an airport like Sky Harbor, ground traffic is controlled by the tower, right? Does this mean some controller is going to be taking an enforced vacation?

Pretty sure someone on ground control screwed the pooch on that one.  I'd bet that neither pilot had the visibility to prevent the collision, hence the need for ground control at major airports.  There's a chance the SW pilot could have avoided the accident, but probably not.
