I don't really care what they call it, Gorsuch is clearly qualified and should be confirmed ASAP.
Rules are rules, and if those rules allow the majority to rewrite the rules (which they apparently do) then I don't really see the issue.
I'm honestly surprised it took this long to "nuke it".
In the moral, catatonic stupor America finds itself in today it is only disagreement we seek, and the more virulent that disagreement, the better.

Mr Reid's rule has now been applied. When do they swear in our new milk-chugging Reichsjustice?

Let's say hypothetically that Clinton had won the election.  Would the Senate Democrats have pitched the same hissy-fit if she had nominated anyone other than Merrick Garland?

I like Rand Paul's suggestion that we need to stop calling it the nuclear option and start calling it the Reid option.

I've been saying for a couple of months that the Republicans are eventually going to erect a statue to Harry Reid.

What's really interesting is that 4 senators voted to break the filibuster -- Heitcamp, Donnolly, Manchin, and Bennett.

3 of the 4 are from states that went Trump and who are also up for re-election in 2018. Easy to see what their motivation was -- self-preservations.

The fourth, Bennett of Colorado, is from a Hillary state and is NOT up for re-election. I want to see what the Denver Post has to say about his position.

Bennett changed his vote later.

Explain. Changed it how? When?

This was after Democrats initially blocked Gorsuch in a filibuster earlier in the day. Four Democrats broke ranks -- Sens. Michael Bennet, D-Colo.; Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D.; Joe Donnelly, D-Ind.; and Joe Manchin, D-W.Va. – but Republicans still fell short of the 60 votes needed to proceed, prompting McConnell to overhaul the way the Senate works.

He said he did so “for the sake of our country.”

Bennet later opposed Gorsuch on the do-over vote.

There was a series of votes.

For Cloture.

To change the rules to 50 votes.

For Cloture again under the new rules.

So the elimination of the 60-vote requirement wasn't for the actual confirmation vote, but only for the number of votes needed to end a filibuster?

Reports say Gorsuch will be sworn in on Monday or Tuesday. I hope that guy/woman/person is there to do his Anakin NOOOOOO! again.

I wonder how long until Gorsuch gets out the head ax, and starts eliminating teh ghays. Will he formally enslave all the women, or merely declare them non-persons?

That is my understanding.  It just allows a vote to end debate which brings on the floor vote for confirmation.

Rush mentioned today that SC nominees were never filibustered until Democrats started doing it under Bush II.  I hadn't heard that mentioned anywhere.  He said even Clarence Thomas got confirmed with less than 60 votes even after the circus that went out around the Anita Hill stuff.

Regarding my previous remark about it being handy to register as a Democrat, it was nice to be able to start out my email to my Democratic Senator with "As a long-standing registered Democrat..."

"...I urge you to break ranks with the Party..."

After the cloture vote, the Dems were told that there would be 30 more hours for people to address their concerns on the Senate floor, and a vote would be held Friday (today) at 7:30 p.m.

Well, the Dems, who have vowed to fight this nomination until the last possible minute, suddenly realized that hey, 7:30 p.m. is too late for us to make our Easter recess flights.

So they requested that the vote be moved to 11:30 this morning.

Fighting the good fight is a Democratic way of life... as long as it doesn't interfere with their vacations.

McConnell should say, nope the vote is scheduled for 7:30 because we have other pressing business to attend to during the day.

Yeah, I'd love it, but you know that the Republicans were bitching about missing flights, too.
