My first big order for the year from Germandeli came in, so German Mittagessen* today. :)
Knackwurst boiled in beer, accompanied by sweet Bavarian mustard
Spaetzle (a pasta) with Jagersosse (hunter's sauce)
The last of my Spring batch of sauerkraut
Bauerbrot (farmer's bread)
Heffeweizen to wash it down
Accompanied by German waltz albums (actual vinyl) to aid the digestion.
The only thing missing was a proper German digestif. I had an unopened bottle of Grand Marnier, so went with that as it was as close to a German brandy as I had available. I'm going to have to track down some proper obst brandy, but it's hard to come by in these parts.
All in all though, an excellent Sunday eating experience, kraut style. :)
* In Germany, the big meal of the day, or dinner, is eaten mid-day. Evening, at least in the South, is a smaller meal called Brotzeit (literally "bread time") and usually consists of some sausage derivative, bread, and of course, beer.
