Another of my "TV topics" with no link, but just saw a news segment about a procedure (some kind of gene therapy) that can reverse blindness in some cases, at a cost of ~$850K. Would you pay it? I would, if I could come up with the money, if I had to sell everything I owned, if I had to go into debt, if I had to end up living in a plywood shack in the desert and go back to work at my age and dig ditches. I would do it if it were $2 million.
Blindness is one of my bugaboos. I know many people overcome it and lead productive lives, but I'm not sure I could. Being able to see, even if I had to wear coke bottle glasses, is a very important "quality of life" issue for me. Others might feel that they could live with blindness, using the nearly $1 million to support themselves for the rest of their lives.
What would you do?
