Perhaps even more than in 2016, this is the time when we need to hold our noses and vote straight Republican just to stick it to the Democrats -- as well as to give Trump a chance to carry out some of what he promised when he was running. I actually feel sorry for the guy -- he has to fight the Democrats AND the Republicans. He's like Rodney Dangerfield -- he don't get no respect.

shift away from? Yeah, I can see that.

But to what do we shift TOWARD?
What we have here is failure to communicate.

My thoughts as well.  When your only choices are bad Rs or worse D's, where the hell do you put your support?

That was a real nothing-burger of a story.   I really think the media is trying to suppress republican turnout in November.

I agree ... and I hope it backfires massively.

It won't, our cultural history shows that we love being told what to do and think.

I agree.  I think it will, but I try not to be a pessimist about such things.  It is way too early to sound like I am giving up.

I am listening to Gun Talk from Sunday.  One thing Tom Gresham mentioned was going to a state legislative meeting on some gun control topics.  He mentioned seeing a block of Democrat legislators who were all planning to vote for gun control no matter what was said in public comment.  He has usually always been one to say support the party/candidate that supports gun rights, but he said he doesn't see any Democrats voting for gun rights.  He said that maybe the best thing is to vote R and kick the anti-gunners out.  It won't change things immediately, but it might help move things in the right direction.

However the Rs go and do things like:

From Garland S. Tucker III at Real Clear Politics

Quote
As we now know, last year DeVos boldly submitted a $9 billion year-to-year reduction in appropriations for her department. How did the Republican Congress respond? It granted the department a $2.6 billion increase in appropriations, instead of the $9 billion requested cut. With control of both houses of Congress and the presidency — and with a secretary pleading for reduced appropriations — is this the best the GOP can do? If so, loyal Republicans should be asking themselves: “What difference does my vote (or my campaign contribution) make?”

Which is why those who vote in the R primaries need to take a hard look at who the candidates are.  ALL the Democrats appear to be anti-gun, big spending, authoritarian, socialists.  Some of the Republicans are the same.  Some other Republicans are weak enough in their convictions to not oppose them.  So vote for the best individual running in your area just like always.

And I would say the state level politicians are just as important as the Bloomberg anti-gun minions are pushing gun control in all 50 states.  Right now, the federal courts and Supreme Court cannot be relied on to block the states from doing gun control.

I just vote anti-incumbent across the board. A freshman Democrat will hold much less power than a wishy-washy Republican that has outserved his usefulness decades ago......

.....yeah, I'm looking at you, Cornyn.

When was Cornyn useful?  (Other than by comparison to "your opinion has been noted, but I know better than you" KBH, I mean.)

Yes, but the newbie D will reliably vote for whatever Schumer or Pelosi tell them to vote for if they want any of that sweet, sweet, sweet campaign money for their re-election.

I agree on Cornyn.

Michael Berry did a bunch of John Wayne McCornyn parody political ads on his radio show the last time he ran.  They were very funny and weren't all that different from Cornyn's actual ads.

There's that and the issue of membership on various committees.  I find it amazing how well the D leadership can keep the their politicians on point.  It doesn't matter what the R's say or propose, it's wrong.  I don't believe the article.
