While I would only occasionally order from Germandeli.com, I too was saddened by its demise.  Maybe next time I'm in Iowa you can point me to some good currywurst.

Germandeli.com was probably the best Internet option, especially for fresh stuff. While Amazon has stuff like packaged spaetzle and stuff, you don't know how long it as been sitting around and it's overly expensive. Forget sausage on Amazon.

Just keep them both, when retirement comes I want a single story home. I don't want to be one of those people that either stay downstairs or upstairs the whole time because of the (help I've fallen and I can't get up) stairs. ;)

bob

Mom's house would have been that way. Big old Queen Anne Victorian. The front stairs weren't terrible, but the older Mom got the harder it was for her. But, the saving grace was that in the 1950s my Grandfather (Dad grew up in the house) replaced the servant's steps off the kitchen with an Inclinator chair lift. Push a button and you go up or down no muss no fuss.

You could live a mile or so down the road from me, though I’m on the ‘poor’ side of the city limits.

This place is listed for sale not far from me. It's on one of Seren's and my regular walking routes. Were I in the market for a new home I'd really consider it. Given what I could sell my place for I could slot right into this place and have about the same monthly mortgage.

It’s on the upper end of the spectrum, but 200k will stillbuy you a 3bd/1ba 1000sq ft home in that area.

Here's a cozy little mcmansion that is spitting distance from my house.

There are areas closer to Milwaukee with similar demographics with even higher housing prices.

What really sucks is when I bought my house in 2014, I was thinking that I could at least have my own pistol range in the back yard (I have about 1.5 acres, but then mcmansions started popping up like mushrooms 1/4 mile directly behind my house.

Depends on the route, but Verona is pretty much straight west of Milwaukee, so you probably went through Brookfield/Wauwatosa/Waukesha.
