Ford v Ferrari
« on: July 04, 2019, 03:24:42 AM »
https://www.foxmovies.com/movies/ford-v-ferrari

Finally!  A movie I would go to the cinema to watch, it's been years.  (Okay, I went to see BR 2049 at the cinema, but it was just an okay movie, especially compared to the original).

Yes, I know it has Matt Damon, a minus, and yes, I concede that normally by itself that might be enough to avoid it.  But, he does get punched in the face by Carroll Shelby, so I think that redeems it, and then some.

I was a big Ford guy in the '60s, and the Cobra/Shelby/GT40 history was the highlight.

November 15.

Argh!  My mistake.  Matt Damon gets punched in the face by racer Ken Miles.  Matt Damon is playing Carroll Shelby.    =|

I have The Cobra Story, written by Carroll Shelby.  One of my favorite incidents is when Ken Miles accelerated from 0 to 100 and back to 0.  The record at the time was 25 seconds, and Ken Miles did it in 13.8 with the Cobra.  Domination!

We don't have to go rescue Matt Damon again, do we ??

Yep, the door latch breaks with him inside and the movie then spends the next two hours showing people trying to figure out how to open the door and failing until the Chinese come along and open the door. After opening the door they find out Damon had started a potato farm inside the car.

While he was in the car, he was also defending a bridge from a German onslaught.

Okay, I saw this last night, really enjoyed it.  It was great to see the history, characters, and cars come to life.  Christian Bale was excellent.

RESURECTION!

Finally caught this on HBO the other week. Wasn't sure I was going to like it. Not all that interested in racing movies, but man this one was different. Really nicely crafted story.

I did read an article some months ago about how Leo Bebe was completely mischaracterized in the movie, and there's no indication that he was anything like how he was portrayed in the movie, but I guess they needed a character to be the main nemesis, and he drew the short stick.

I've watched it about three times in the last month. Enjoyed it.

I was home nursing a cold today, and watched it (when I wasn't out pulling PMCS on my own Ford).

I thoroughly enjoyed Christian Bale's performance, and I think he was having a lot of fun, too. And, say what you will about Damon; he does good work.

I've caught bits and pieces of it on broadcast TV over the past couple of years.

Still a great movie.

And a FANTASTIC sound track.

There are two movies I can watch over and over, and at anytime. Ford v Ferrari and On Any Sunday. On Any Sunday 2 I can watch if pressed. :)

I saw it on Tubi, which is free. I think it's only there a few more days, though.

The Ford v. Ferrari soundtrack is worth a listen on its own. If you don't have a surround system, at the very least plug a set of headphones into your TV when watching. Elevates the experience substantially. Sound design is great and LFE is properly brutal.
