Confidential settlements are routine in medmal and other types of personal injury claims such as product liability. Mr. Armstrong's fame as a public figure certainly increased the value of the case for settlement. I can see how the physicians screwed up by not taking him stat to the OR to explore his heart. The temp pacemaker no doubt punctured the heart and between blood loss and cardiac tamponade, he died. He likely would have made it if they immediately cracked his chest, drained the blood and repaired the punctures.
