When it hits the meat case at Safeway or Walmart, I will try it and keep an open mind. It would really have to be something for me to buy a second package, though.

If they make a really good and inexpensive meat substitute I don't think I'd eat less meat but I'd think about replacing some of the nonmeat with more meatlike nonmeat.

Due to food allergies of others I have been eating a lot of turkey sausage and bacon. It's fake of course, the real stuff is better, but I eat it and live. Less grease is easier on me too.

Meat free. Nope nope nope.

Remember, I work welding together robots and other machines that move hot dogs and other meat products in packing plants. We built one for Tofurky, packaging meat free Italian sausage. It is the one test product ever that no one stole some for lunch. I wouldn't even take them home to feed the chickens. I like my chickens.

I've tried turkey bacon. I actually like the taste. But what I do NOT like every brand of turkey bacon I've ever had is the high number of freaking bone chips from processing. Nothing like chawing down on a chunk of bacon and every 5th bite you're picking a bone chip out of your mouth.

Turkey sausage I love.

There's something so liberal in that.

Now don't get me wrong, if they actually do come up with a way of producing meat in the lab and can cook it up on the grill medium rare and I can't tell the difference between it and real meat then I'm all for it. Everything I've seen so far, nope. Now where's my Star Trek replicator?

^ Wait a minute. The three major producers of bacon bits claim they are real bacon.

OK, not hot out of the frying pan or off the grill, but as a secondary source of bacony flavor/crunch, they're not that bad. They're not like the smoke or powder. I've used them in salads and the like, secretly, so the purists wouldn't know, and found they were OK.

Purists may now open the affray, but I'll stick to my guns here.
