Ben's mention of ATV's sparked my memory.

I have used the valves in the OP in a bunch of different boats.  Inboard (or I/O) boat engines almost never have much room under the engine, and you aren't jacking that baby up.  I have had good success routing the hose from one of those valves out the drain plug and draining into a bucket (assuming boat on trailer).  It beats just draining it into the bilge and hitting the bilge pump when you get offshore.  :D

We have metal “ecology drains”. Pain in the ass. First they didn’t standardize one one size/type. Two of them require a specific special connector to drain and the third a 1” pipe nipple. It does allow you to connect a hose and route the drain.

 I am going to hazard a guess- this plug cannot be inserted and stay in place without being locked in position?

Yup. It's super loose until just before the wings lock in place.
