Sounds like a country ripe for revolution.
Look in most any town, large or small, in the Southwest, and you will find the same thing going on. The Albuquerque flea market is a prime example. You would be hard pressed to tell the difference between that and being in Mexico. Same junk, same suspicious food, same faces.
[travellers tip: never buy food from a street vendor in these areas, or on an indian reservation. It is not a question of IF you will get sick, but rather to what degree.]
Sad for the folks who have to live there, but it is up to them to correct the situation, not us.
