Magazine carrier for Sub 2000
« on: August 24, 2020, 02:21:12 PM »
Anyone use an on-gun magazine carrier for their Sub 2000?

I've found versions from Concealment Solutions (expensive at $60, but looks decent) and Twisted Industries... but, TI's appears to be only for Gen 1 guns, and mine's a Gen 2.

I think this is what I have for a couple guns.  Works for the Glock stick mags and other extended mags that have a similar length.  I guess I need to check if I have enough mags to fill it.  I think when I got it I went looking for Uzi mag pouches before trying this and it works well enough.

I guess it depends on how many you think you might get.  The have a 12 pocket version.   =D

Yeah, that one qualifies as a magazine carrier...

But it doesn't qualify as an on-gun magazine carrier, which is what I asked about.

All that powder smoke rush to your head?

The reason I'm looking on-gun (I have a pouch multiple mag carrier that's going to be used) is because I want to be able to stow it behind my driver's seat, folded, with the short mag in the well and an enhanced capacity mag in the carrier.

I have the Keltec unit that clamps onto the bottom of the buttstock. It'll only hold a 10 or 15 round mag though. The 30's are too long and will get in the way of the pistol grip.

Although this is with the older Sub9, and mine takes S&W 5900 mags, so my rig is now over 20 years old.

Never mind. Looked at Keltec's website and they don't offer it anymore.  =|

Yours takes Glock mags? You could just stick a mag right on the front forearm rail like a VFG, and have it ready to snap/slide off when needed. Is a G17 mag too low of capacity?

https://www.wolverinesupplies.com/ProductDetail/FABGMFG_-FAB-Glock-Magazine-Picatinny-Attachment--Black-

Although it sounds like you want a 32 round extended magazine. That might be a little too long.  =D

This looks promising... https://www.fullconceal.com/product-page/magsight-picatinny-mag-holder/ Out of stock, but promising.

Yeah, I didn't see anything on KT's website when I looked over the weekend.

And yes, mine takes Glock magazines.

Interesting concept on the Wolverine, but I'd really like something where, when the gun is folded, it doesn't add to it's overall size footprint. Ideally that would be something that allows the mag to be stowed parallel to the forearm and either on the bottom or side, not on top.

I guess you would have to put it on the bottom.  As narrow as the front end is, that might still work okay.

Keltec has side rails on their site that might give you more flexibility.

I just noticed this was added to their site.   =D   [ar15]

One with a can would be fun, but not the sort of thing I want to cart around in the back of my car.

Oh, now this is interesting...

Actually, I've been thinking about this some more, and I don't see why there's any need at all to replace the Uncle Mike's backing plate with a metal plate. The metal plate might make it a bit stiffer overall, but I think that can be worked around. I'm going to mess with the concept a bit and see what I can come up with.

I bet you could figure it out with some clever hardware and no need to mill your own parts.

Looking at other DIY options from KTOG, you could just take a mag pouch and affix it to the buttstock with some Chicago screws. But most of those setups would be one or two 15-17 round mags, and not a 30.

Here's how I might go about it if I wanted horizontal mounting in parallel with the forearm.

Get this Blackhawk magazine holder.
https://www.amazon.com/BLACKHAWK-410500-C-Single-Mag-Pouch/dp/B004T883N0

And then just get a Picatinny rail adapter like this.

https://www.coyotelight.com/picatinny-rail-mount/

Clamp it down so one side is on the Picatinny rail on the Sub 2000, and the other side is grabbing the belt loop tab on the magazine holder. Cut/shave the belt loop down as needed to fit.
I promise not to duck.

Yeah, I think no matter what, a rail mount is the way to go as the base.
